FAQs

What is this site about?

Though I’ve described the site as being about guns, movies and video games, there is really no topic that is off limits (except politics).  I review games that I’ve recently played or look back at older games I grew up with.  Being a huge fan of FPS games, as well as having grown up with a family who likes guns, I like to look at guns in the context of video games as well as how they are used today and historically.  But I don’t want to try and break news about any recent developments in the video game industry or any other industry for that matter, because there are others far better equipped to handle such things.  My goal is to provide original content and perspectives concerning topics that interest me, and hopefully, interest you as well.

Why don’t you discuss politics as well?

Because you’ll either agree with me, so what’s the point, or you’ll disagree with me, and then you’re an idiot.

I’ve heard you’re a lawyer, is that true?

Yes I’m a lawyer, but this is not a legal blog.  I don’t want to offer legal advice and I don’t care about your legal problems.  I do like to, however, write about the law when it comes to video games, especially censorship (not a fan) and violence (big fan).

Does anyone else write articles for this blog?

Yes.  Currently three other people write for this blog.  They are Jsixgun, Jimmy Paperboy, and Dorisfromnoris.  Unless it’s indicated that an article has been written by them, you can assume that I have written the article.  We all know each other outside of this site, and when there is nothing else better to do, we sometimes even hang out.

I strongly disagree with something you’ve written, and need you to know about it now.

First, I’m happy that you’ve been reading the articles on this site.  We always love feedback, so please don’t hesitate to leave a comment.  The angrier the better.

What does Mortar and Pistol mean?

Unfortunately, my spell check does not recognize the word pestle, and so we are stuck with this for the time being.  I’ve been trying to call the CEO of the internet for days now, but we haven’t had a call back.

Why don’t you do video reviews?

Because I don’t know how, because I don’t like watching other people’s video reviews, and because I don’t like hearing myself speak on a recording.  Also, written articles are a thinking man’s articles (plus you can read them at work, or on your phone).

What system do you play your games on?

I play almost all of my games on a Playstation 3, though there are a few games that I still do play on my PC.  I used to have an Xbox, but was removed from XBL because my profile was too vulgar.  They currently refuse to lift my ban on account of non-payment, which is fine on account of my non-ownership of an Xbox.

Where are you from?

I am from Tennessee, and only started this blog recently since we were the last state to receive an internet connection.

  1. I’ve read a few things so far and I like it, sign me up. The writing here is fantastic but lets be honest, the banners of George are what sold me.

    • Mortal Kombat and Nba Jam! 15 years ago I rmemeber myself playing these games like an idiot! God knows how many coins I spent on those two games. (Especially the Mortal Kombat series) And thanks to Nba Jam whenever I hear “From the outside!”, regardless of context, I always instinctively reply “No good”!I laughed a lot at Double Dribble’s voice samples. They were too cheesy to be true. I also find myself highly amused from Altered Beast “Rise from your Grave” quote, because it sounds like “Wise fwom your Gwave” and it reminded me of Elmer Fudd. :PI’d also like to announce my own personal pick: Captain America and the Aveeeengers! Whether it should belong to the best or worst, it is up to debate!Anyway, great job! I’m happy to see there are still gamers fascinated with the old-school games. Keep up the good work! 😀

    • The first thing you need is some software to rrceod yourself playing the game. This is called video capture software, both planetgamecam.com and fraps.com offer lite/shareware versions of their video capture software that will work great for this purpose. Next you need something to edit the rrceoding you made with your video capture software. It you are using Windows XP the built in Windows Movie Maker software will be fine. Now with a little creativity, some time and a LOT of free hard disk space you can make your very own Video.Visit Google video or youtube and upload your masterpiece.

  2. I totally agree with John. I like the writing style and love the George pics!

  3. You need to participate in a contest for among the best blogs on the web. I’ll advocate this site!

  4. @ Anonymous and raina,The theonclogy to have speech (speech synthesis without the need for recording someone’s voice has been around for quite along time. I’m fairly certain that the samples in Bezerk were synthesized. Computers in the early 80’s could read text. I’m sure there was stuff around before then that could do that.Using pre-recorded voice samples is another matter all together. However, in the games from the 8 bit and early 16 bit era, one would probably be hard pressed to simply tell if the voices samples are synthetic or comes initially from samples. It all has to be compressed and everything, regardless. So you could probably use the two interchangeably when reviewing games from that era. Not worth splitting hairs over 🙂
